Crests!!

Still a few Goldcrests moving through garden this morning, 1 trying to call like a Firecrest but sadly no white eye stripe!! Also 3 'continental' Blackbirds dropped in from a good height, straight down and perched in top of cherry tree for a few mins before moving off west. Lishers

Twitch!!

Twitch to Aldcliffe (nr Lancaster) this morning for a juv LESSER YELLOWLEGS, that has been present for a few days. Good views obtainted as it fed on a small flood next to carpark. Also present was a rather late Wood sand and the two often fed side by side. [This is my 2nd UK Lesser legs, the first in Apr '96]. Earlier a Barn owl flew over the by-pass towards farleton. Took a few 'crappy' pics with fone through scope, which i will put on tomorrow. Lishers

2 ad Whoopers flew low east (calling constantly) over garden, just prior to dusk this evening! Lishers

Saved by a Crow!!

Working in Leasgill this morning, in the field next to where i was working there was a lod comotion which resulted in a female Sparrowhawk catching a Green woodpecker and forcing it to the ground with out-streched wings. A Carrion crow flew in and mobbed the Sprawk, ableing the Green woodpecker to have a very lucky escape, chased immediately by the Sparrowhawk, but able to thwart the 2nd attempt. 10 mins later the Sparrowhawk flew through the garden and picked off a Coal tit at nxt door neighbours bird table. c.100 Redwings over along with about 55 Fieldfares. Garden!

6 vocal Goldcrests in garden this morning, always chance of something tagging along, like a Yellow browed. Also 3 Redpoll flew over. Lishers

Winter Thrushes!

1st Fieldfare of winter this morning! 1 'chak-chak-chak' ing over house first thing with Redwings. Lishers

Lateish Swallows!!

2 Swallows at Arnside 1st thing this morning. Also c.60 Pinks flew South, the Black swan was again present. Nice shot of a Black headed gull as i had my lunch break, c.30 Black heads feeding on bread thrown from car, these inc 5 ringed birds (managed to get part numbers of 3 of them) also in the group 1 bird with no legs or feet. 1st Goldeneye of the winter, 1female on the Estuary off Arnside on high tide, whilst having my lunch break. Lishers

Peregrine!!

Female Peregrine over house at half eleven, carrying prey (looked like a pigeon). Lishers

Humphrey head, Grange.

2 hrs vis-mig'ing on Humphrey head from dawn this morning produced ; Reed bunting 4-S: Brambling 3-W: Meadow pipit 37-S: Redwing 8-E: Crossbill 5-SE: Skylark 5-S, 15-W: Siskin 27-S: Pink feet 110-W, 360-N: Chaffinch 16-S & Bullfinch 2-S. Also 1 Green woodpecker, male Blackcap and 16 Little egret on marsh. Lishers

Jay!

A noisy Jay in the garden early this morning was a good sighting! (Usually only 1-3 visits a year). Lishers

GWE!!!!

A pre dawn visit to Leighton moss this morning for a Great white egret, which duelly obliged at 07.28 when it left the roost accompanied with 117 Little egrets. Also seen 2 Marsh harriers and a Green wood, a Fox showed nicely as it trotted down the road towards the car. Still 10 Swallows (all juvs) around house this evening! . Lishers

White Crow!

A leusistic Carrion crow seen today (9 Oct) feeding in a silage cut field with a few Carrions and Rooks at Barrow's green, Kendal. This bird had a very pale off white colouration. Also a few Swallows noted heading south through the day. Lishers

Kent estuary 8/10/12

c.40 Skylarks were mobile in stubble field along marsh lane, Heversham along with 7+ Tree sparrows. 2 Marsh tits feeding in the hedge along there with a few Blues and Greats were a little dustance from normal habitat. Off Arnside a Black swan [fence hopper] was present in the channel, 7 Ringed plover, 5Dunlin and a Bar tailed godwit fed on sand with Curlews and Oycs. Lishers

Kent Estuary!

1 Redwing over Arnside marsh just after dawn this morning. Also 27 Barnacle geese on sand below Arnside viaduct before flying low up the estuary, 2imm Whoopers off Fishcarling and c.190 Pinks flew north in 2 skiens. Later in day 77 pinks flew west over Kendal and still 7 Swallows over the house. Lishers.
